Deductive and Inductive Reasoning

Deductive Reasoning from my understanding works from the top down because you start with a theory narrow it down to a hypothesis, and from there go into an observation and then confirm it.  While inductive reasoning is working from the bottom up where you make an observation and then see a pattern.  From there you have a tentative hypothesis and narrow it down to a theory.  Both of these approaches are used often and a great way to figure something out.
